The lead directress is a teacher as well as pedagogical director for the Montessori curriculum. As teacher, she is responsible for planning and conducting the daily program for a group of children in the school by:
l. Establishing and maintaining a safe and healthy environment in the classroom, in the nap room, and on the playground.
2. Preparing educational materials to advance physical and intellectual competence in the Montessori curriculum.
3. Maintaining an orderly physical environment conducive to building positive self-concept and individual strength of the children.
4. Hiring and supervising personnel assigned to assist with daily group activities.
5. Attending staff and parent meetings and contributing to the meetings.
6. Coordinating with parents of the children to plan for activities designed to foster the growth and development of each child.
7. Observing, recording, and reporting significant behavior.
In addition, the directress also must:
1. Ensure that Montessori concepts are adhered to in all facets of department operation. This includes parent and community relationships as well as working with the children.
2. Ensure that the Montessori curriculum is being followed. This includes seeing that each child is encouraged to achieve his highest level of development at each age, seeing that each department staff is encouraged to achieve her highest potential within the curriculum, and seeing that equipment and material meet the highest standards possible.
This is a professional position and pay is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Qualifications:
- Must possess a college degree in early childhood education with practical knowledge of Montessori education and/or a valid AMS/AMI accreditation from a Montessori training facility such as Houston Montessori Center.
- Experience working with the 18 month to 3 year age cohort.
- Current CPR and first aid certifications or a willingness to earn them.
- Must pass a criminal background check per State of Texas requirements.
