Parenting Young Children – The Priorities

Parenting is hard. As much as we see and can support with evidence the effectiveness of our methods when it comes to both educating and working with the behavior of children in the age groups we support, we also know that adopting these methods consistently is difficult for parents. We are all passionate about our children and we also come to the table with biases, influences, and a lifetime of experiences that may have us convinced that trying different things is either unnecessary or doomed to fail.

Luau by the Pool

The luau this year will be held Saturday, July 30th, from 6-8PM. We will be at the Lakeside Pool in Alden Bridge. The address is 5001 W. Alden Bridge (the entrance is next to Buckalew Elementary). Any food and drink you wish to consume should be carried in picnic style. There will be trash cans available as always. For our newer families, this is one of our best attended events. It is a great way for the children to get to see and engage with their friends outside of school (while also getting soaking wet) as well as for the big people to get to better know other families within the school. There is a pool for the little kids as well as the regular pool - so everyone can have fun!

Earth Day

Earth Day occurs this week and that means a number of things to us. First and foremost - at Greystone House it means we will be outside as much as the weather allows. We love that and so do the preschool aged children we support.

In Praise of Wildlife

We want to tie into our curriculum subject this week (birds) and talk about wildlife viewing as a part of engaging with nature and creating some fun, family time. It may surprise newcomers and outsiders that the 4th most populous city in the United States has an abundance of wildlife. Not only is there an abundance, but there is also an enormous variety.
